As 2024 begins and temperatures on Wall Street plummet, allow Financial Planning to transport you back to warmer days and one of the hottest wealth management events of 2023.

Williams and Roberts had just finished up at the Social Audio Experiment stage at Future Proof, where they had recorded
"When we look at high-performing firms and high-performing leaders, we see some recurring characteristics. They show up, year over year, in how these individuals and these teams are running their businesses," Williams said. "They are willing to get in there, get uncomfortable, make hard decisions, have cabin conversations and really push themselves."
Roberts, who likened the outdoor conference to a cross between South by Southwest and Burning Man, said he hoped to soak up as much knowledge as possible. "There's always something that you can glean from high performers and elite folks," he said.
"Just like Dimensional is here to help people grow their business … my mission is to help people wage war against their status quo," Roberts said. His onstage talk with Williams "was just a great opportunity for us to have a conversation around — not just the balance sheet, but, how do you build your business, and also maintain the time that you need for the people around you?"
Williams said one objective she had at the fest was to speak with current and potential clients and have conversations to discover and create commonalities. But both she and Roberts were mindful that pursuing work goals came with limitations, and that taking space for self care should be a priority.
"It's being equally purposeful — Darren talked about this — [about] rest. I tell my team, 'We're stepping away from the studies,'" Williams said. "We have to just take a beat, go spend time with family. And as a leader, I think we have to set that example."

Future Proof, an event billed as the first wealth festival, is making its return next summer and dates for Future Proof 2024 have already been announced. The event is slated to return to Huntington Beach Sept. 15-18, 2024.
Future Proof is also expanding in the new year with the addition of Future Proof Retreat, an additional event for wealth management leaders that will take place March 24-27 in Colorado Springs.
