As 2024 begins and temperatures on Wall Street plummet, allow Financial Planning to transport you back to warmer days and one of the hottest wealth management events of 2023.

Financial Planning is taking a special look back at the annual Future Proof Festival, a one-of-a-kind industry gathering that attracted nearly 3,000 financial advisors, wealth management executives, fintech leaders, emerging startups, rap icons and more to Huntington Beach, California, during the second week of September.

Our walk down memory lane is a series of exclusive interviews with insiders and newsmakers conducted by Financial Planning Wealthtech Reporter Justin L. Mack, who also served as a panel moderator during the event.

In this clip, Mack catches up with Wealth.com co-founder Tim White and Thomas Kopelman, the founder of AllStreet Wealth in Indianapolis. Over the summer, Kopelman joined the Wealth.com team as the firm's first head of community. In the role, Kopelman will work to strengthen the relationship between the company and its primary audience, which includes advisors and RIAs.

The Midwest advisor with the sizable social media following also supports the Phoenix-based digital estate planning tech platform as a member of its Advisor Council, a curated group of diverse and influential leaders in the financial advisory space.

At Future Proof 2023, the dynamic duo was on the ground to soak up the sun and sights that only this event can provide while spreading the word about how Wealth.com plans to remix estate planning in 2024. One Wealth.com study indicates that individuals are more inclined to initiate the estate planning journey when guided by financial advisors.

White said an important part of what makes Wealth.com work is the fact that advisors are the ones who shape how the product looks and feels. He said without feedback from the advisory community, building a platform that adds value instead of just adding complexity wouldn't be possible.

That approach is something Kopelman felt firsthand and is one of the many reasons he decided to fly the company flag in his new roles. He said "for advisors, by advisors" is a phrase that gets thrown around quite a bit, but Wealth.com makes it more than just a pitch.

"We're an interesting industry, right? There's so many nuances to it. How we work with clients is different. How we charge clients is different. The things that we plan on are different. And what they've been really receptive to is like taking that feedback and making slight changes," he said. "There's just so many small changes that helped us implement it with more clients and actually get [estate plans] done. Because at the end of the day, estate planning is a pain point for most advisors.

"What we want to be able to do is get them done, but then also create a way to have them updated, which never happens. And just save advisors time to be able to talk about estate planning and make sure everything flows in the right way."
