Stifel hires $571M Merrill team to open new branch

A team managing $571 million in client assets left Merrill Lynch to join Stifel Financial, opening a new branch office for the regional firm.

They’re the latest wirehouse team to jump ship for a regional BD. Stifel, for example, has been on an aggressive hiring streak, recently picking up advisors from Merrill and Wells Fargo that oversaw a combined $3.6 billion in client assets.

The firm’s newest addition, the Reese Williams Wealth Management Group, is comprised of brothers Bart and George Reese, Zachary Williams, Teresa Black and Kendall Elkins. The team is based in Sugar Land, Texas, where Bart Reese also serves as branch manager, according to Stifel.

Bart Reese and older brother George both spent the entirety of their respective 27- and 22 year-careers at Merrill Lynch, according to FINRA BrokerCheck records.

Elkin started her career at the wirehouse in 2009, while Williams started at Primevest Financial in 2000, according to BrokerCheck records. Williams moved to Merrill in 2003.

Black has 33 years in the business, beginning her career at Merrill, then moving to Prudential and Smith Barney before returning to the wirehouse.

A Merrill Lynch spokesperson was not available for immediate comment on the departures.
