Raymond James Snags $4.2M J.P. Morgan Team

The Cohen group managed approximately $670 million in client assets while with J.P. Morgan. The advisor team, led by Michael Cohen and his son, Benjamin Cohen, will join Raymond James & Associates, the firm's employee broker-dealer channel.

“The Cohen group is a great addition to our Chicago office,” said Brian Lampsa, Chicago complex manager, in a statement. “We are most fortunate to have been able to attract such an experienced, multigenerational team to Raymond James.”

In addition to the Cohens, the team includes senior registered sales associates Patricia Litavec Carpenter, Camille Johnson and Kerry Bolinder.

Michael Cohen is a veteran of the financial services industry.  He started his career in 1971 at H. Hentz & Company, according to FINRA documents. In 1975 he moved to Bear Stearns, where he stayed through its merger with J.P. Morgan.

Benjamin Cohen, CFP, also started his wealth management career at Bear Stearns in 2006, according to FINRA documents.

Raymond James has been recruiting heavily this year. The Tampa Bay-based wealth manager has attracted advisors to both its employee and independent channels, poaching about a dozen advisor teams from its wirehouse rivals since the year began.

“The addition of the Cohen team is just one more illustration of the momentum we have built in attracting successful advisors from across the industry,” Tash Elwyn, president of the firm’s private client group, said in a statement. “There is clearly great appeal in our firm’s reputation, culture and services - and the fact we are delivering on our commitment of being the premier alternative to Wall Street."
