Two veteran Merrill Lynch advisers who managed more than $500 million in client assets joined Raymond James, the company says.
“We wanted a firm that would afford us both flexibility and choice in the way we serve our clients and allow us to provide the services and solutions they need, rather than what the firm decides,” adviser C. Kemper Wharton said in a statement.

In the last two months, Raymond James has said it had recruited seven advisers managing $1.2 billion in client assets.

Though the wirehouse notched impressive wins, Merrill wasn't the only firm to land elite recruits recently.
The newest hires, Wharton and teammate M. Todd Oney, both have over 20 years of experience working in the industry at Merrill Lynch, according to BrokerCheck FINRA records.
They will be joining Raymond James in its Richmond, Virginia office, according to the company.
Wharton started his career working at Northwestern Mutual in 1987. He joined Merrill Lynch five years later.
Wharton and Oney partnered in 1999, according to their new firm. Oney had started his career Merrill Lynch three years prior.
Merrill Lynch could not be reached for immediate comment on the duo’s departure.
The pair bought with them client associates Rangeley Turner and Margaret Gary.
