Snowden Lane Partners hired a 27-year industry veteran from J.P. Morgan Securities, a spokesman said.
Adviser Dave Woolford joined an existing Snowden team that will manage more than $350 million in client assets, according to the firm.
Woolford, who joins as a managing director and private wealth adviser, will be based with Harbor Wealth Management Group in Baltimore.
Team member Phil Lazzari said in a statement that Woolford's experience would be "a tremendous asset to our team."
The largest teams to go indie this year managed more than $5 billion in client assets.
Woolford said he made the move because he was attracted to Snowden's culture and the client experience at the firm.
He began his career at Lehman Brothers in 1989, according to FINRA BrokerCheck records. He later worked for firms such as Alex. Brown and UBS before joining J.P. Morgan Securities in 2011.
A spokeswoman for J.P. Morgan Securities declined to comment.
Snowden Lane, which was founded by several former Merrill Lynch executives, has been aggressively recruiting advisers and adding new offices. In addition to its New York headquarters the firm has six other offices. Snowden Lane oversees more than $2.5 billion in client assets, according to the firm.
