Huntington Bancshares this week rolled out mobile banking applications for customers' iPhones and Android-powered smartphones that will allow them to check balances, pay bills and transfer funds on the fly.
Officials at the Columbus, Ohio-based regional bank said both applications can be downloaded for free from Apple's App Store and Android's App Market or from the bank's website. The applications also feature a GPS component that allows users to quickly find the nearest Huntington ATM or branch.
“We know our customers already access our digital channels more than 500,000 times a month with iPhone and Android devices," Jeff Dennes, Huntington's director of online and mobile services, said in a statement. "These are the devices our customers are walking around with every day and they will increasingly access their bank information this way.

In April, a Forrester Consulting report found that 13 of 15 banks and credit unions polled are currently offering some type of mobile banking platform.
"At Huntington, our top priority is to create the best experience for our customers, who have told us they want more mobile solutions, and easier ways to interact with us and their money," Mary Navarro, Huntington’s director of consumer and business banking, said in a statement. "Huntington’s mobile applications will enable our more than one million consumer customers to access and control their finances remotely, no matter where they are..."
According to Mercatus LLC, more than 50% of Americans and almost 80% of those younger than 35 by 2015 will use financial services on their mobile devices. The number of people comfortable using mobile banking tools and services will more than triple over the next four years to a total of 38 million households.
Huntington Bancshares officials said both apps were developed in partnership with Kony, a mobile application platform provider.
