Merrill Lynch has named a former football pro and advisor to be a complex director, according to the firm.
William Thomas, who once played defensive back for the Seattle Seahawks, rejoined Merrill for a second stint at the firm, to head its San Francisco complex. He originally joined Merrill in 1995, according to FINRA records and earned his Series 7 a year later.
Thomas stayed with the wirehouse until moving to Wachovia in 2006. As branch manager there, Thomas oversaw about 165 advisors at the firm's New York office. Thomas stayed with Wachovia through its merger with Wells Fargo, but eventually left in 2010 to join MetLife as a managing director. He reunited with Merrill in late October, according to the firm.
Thomas is not the only new manager overseeing advisors in the Bay area. Raymond James & Associates lured away Morgan Stanley branch manager Michael Schipper to oversee its downtown San Francisco office.
Merrill last announced new recruits earlier this month, bringing in advisors managing more than $550 million in assets. One four-member team left UBS to join Merrill in Beaumont, Texas. The team previously managed $395 million in assets while at UBS.
