Buckingham Adds $400 Million Dallas Advisor Firm

St. Louis-based Buckingham Asset Management has added JWA Financial Group of Dallas in its newest acquisition.

JWA brings $400 million in assets under management to Buckingham; JWA founder Jim Whiddon will also join Buckingham’s stable of industry “thought leaders,” both firms said in a joint statement.

Other Buckingham media personalities include New York Times contributor Carl Richards, CBS News contributor Larry Swedroe and Huffington Post contributor Dan Solin as BAM Alliance. The alliance includes more than 130 wealth management firms that share best practices. Whiddon is the author of Wealth Without Worry and The Investing Revolutionaries; he previously hosted “The Investing Revolution,” a daily economic and investment talk radio show on Dallas radio.

“This move will be a huge win for everyone involved, especially clients being served by our Dallas office,” Adam Birenbaum, Buckingham’s CEO, said in a statement. “Our Dallas advisors will be able to offer an even deeper level of service to their clients, while we continue to add to our exceptional talent base. This also provides a significant succession planning solution for our Dallas folks and assures that their clients will be taken care of now and ongoing.”

Buckingham, part of the Focus Financial Partners network of firms, now maintains offices in St. Louis, San Francisco, Dallas and the Silicon Valley area, according to the statement. It managed or administered $4.9 billion in client assets as of May 31, before this transaction.

The move comes as part of Buckingham’s strategy of offering succession solutions to high-quality investment firms that share its evidence-based investment philosophy and commitment to delivering frequent, deeply personal levels of client service, the statement said.

JWA is the sixth firm to join Buckingham since October 2010; it employs eight people and serves more than 250 clients. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
